Fraser Coffee Mug | Family Crest / Coat of Arms | Scottish / Highland Heritage
The surname Fraser is an ancient Scottish family name of probable Anglo-Norman origin, with early forms including de Fresel and de Friselle. The family became established in Scotland during the 12th century, eventually spreading into northeastern Scotland and the Highlands. Two prominent branches emerged: the Frasers of Philorth, associated with the Lords Saltoun, and the Frasers of Lovat, who established a powerful Highland clan around Inverness and the Beauly Firth. Sir Simon Fraser fought during the Wars of Scottish Independence and was executed by the English in 1306. During the Jacobite rising of 1745, Simon Fraser, 11th Lord Lovat, supported the Stuart cause and was executed in 1747. The surname became closely associated with the strawberry plant, reflected in the three white strawberry flowers traditionally featured in Fraser heraldry.
